| About 2 years ago Mylo Freeman, author/illustrator of children’s picture books, heard a story about a small surinam girl who could not believe that black princesses also exist. Simply because the princesses we see are usually blond and blue-eyed.
This story touched her so that immediately she wanted to do something about it! From her archive Mylo found a picture of this little black girl with beautiful tails. And there: princess Arabella was born! The picturebook ‘princess Arabella’s birthday’, published by the Belgian publisher the Eenhoorn, was an immediate success. It was already in reprint after 2 months.
While reading to children, Mylo wanted to use something that might appeal to them in a special way. So she made this large doll of princess Arabella. And because there are not that many nice black dolls around, she decided to produce a series of dolls herself! And why leave it at a little black princess, if you can add a beautiful Chinese princess? And of course, let the beautiful blonde princess join in too!
This is how Kessebes Toys, named after her eldest daughter Kes, came about. In September all the princessdolls will be for sale. A beautiful cuddly doll with a silent message; Princesses exist in every color! | |
